The main reason being is that they hide a multitude of sins! Unfortunately I haven’t been blessed with legs up to my armpits and the stature of a stick insect, so finding clothes to slim me down and elongate my body is usually a tall order (excuse the pun). Imagine my relief, then, when I embarked upon these floor skimming delights.
Obviously, as a ‘petite’ framed female, I was dubious at first, as I’ve read numerous articles warning those vertically challenged that maxi’s can drown a small frame, but I have to say they’re wrong! As long as I avoid busy prints and horizontal stripes, the world is my oyster.
The main maxi trend for S/S 2011 is sheer fabrics and muted tones. Chloe hit the nail on the head on the catwalk with their clean cut, feminine collection, where nude chiffon skirts took centre stage. Antipodium also incorporated this into their designs, creating an effortlessly feminine silhouette.

Bensoni, combined two key trends to take the look of S/S 2011 to even higher heights, colour blocking is a risky look to pull off but when done right looks so good it hurts. This is definitely a look that will fit right in at a summer garden party, even if it does turn heads.
BENSONI
Of course, I’m under no false pretence; I know these looks won’t translate upon my body, however I do know that this is one look that will keep me looking bang on trend and will also flatter my body for once. Depending on my mood I can go for the 90’s grunge look or summer pagan. I can go for over the top romance or minimalist chic, with the same dress.
The versatility and utility of a maxi, will without doubt transcend in and out of trends. Whether as a throw on garment when lounging around the pool or a showstopper on a romantic night out, this column like garment definitely has the maXi factor!
